My Third Pair

I wear these mittens for cross country skiing in Yellowstone. This is my third pair (I ski A LOT) since early 2000’s. They hold up very well, my first pair has a bit of wear on the seams. Mainly, over time, the insulation compacts down so the mitts lose some warmth. I am still wearing both original pairs, but wanted a new pair for those super cold days when I have to be out in sub zero temps. The sizing has changed a bit, and this 3rd pair fits smaller, which I am not sure I like, but I will see how they work over the next season.

Not nearly as warm as expected

For the price, I expected these mitten/gloves to be much warmer. My fingers still were cold in temps between mid-20s to high-30s. Inserting hand warmers helped my fingers, but thumbs were still very cold. Also, the fingers of the gloves get pulled inside out unless I'm very careful to pull them off with the mitten. This is cumbersome when walking a dog and needing to remove them to pick up a deposit. I'm very disappointed and will search for another brand.

Individual fingers are annoying

The inner liners of these gloves have individual fingers. I knew that going in, but the deal was good so I purchased them anyway. I find them fiddly to put on and get my fingers all the way into the liners. Then, when you remove the gloves, the liners tend to get pulled partially inside-out.

Also, the gloves run small. There was no XXL available, but by the sizing chart I was an XL, so I figured they’d be okay. They fit, but they’re too tight.

All in all a disappointing purchase and too difficult to just pull on and use.

What is the warmest glove?

Our warmest gloves have our Level 5 Warmth Rating, meaning they are tested to keep you warm in temperatures down to -20°F / -30°C. Read all about our warmth ratings.

How do I find my glove size?

To find out your glove size, measure (in inches) around your hand with a tape measure across your palm and use our size chart to find the best size for you. You should use your dominant hand, the right if you are right-handed, and the left if you are left-handed.

How do I care for my gloves

Fabric gloves, even with leather palms, can be hand washed with sports wash or Woolite. (Follow detergent manufacturer's directions). Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent.

It is a good idea to have your hands inside your gloves during the wash & rinse process to help maintain the shape of the gloves.

Soap has surfactants that reduce the surface tension of water and dramatically reduce waterproofness. (Nikwax or a similar waterproofing material, works best).

Be sure never to wring out your gloves, as it can ruin the internal stitching and lining materials. You need to let the gloves air dry away from direct heat.

Clean the outside of leather gloves with a mild leather cleaner. It is recommended that you have your hand inside your glove as you gently clean it. After cleaning, you should spray your gloves with a silicone spray to protect the leather.

As for the inside of the glove: it is very difficult to clean the inside of gloves. You could try using Woolite on a cloth and gently clean the inside or try spraying the inside with Febreze. Then you would have to let them air dry.

A second option is to have your gloves professionally cleaned.
